Is Frequent Blog Posting Really Necessary?

By
There's little debate that blog posting is what makes or breaks the success of the site but what role does posting frequency play? It would seem that the most interesting blogs would be the ones that offered not only unique content but also a sense of community for visitors as well! Let's examine why frequent updates may not be all that necessary for a blog to be popular by looking at what readers look for!
Quality
When somebody lands on your site they want to see useful, accurate or late breaking information relevant to the blog topic which of course is also a personal interest of theirs! One thing that makes for interesting blogs is a combination of how something is presented just as much as the substance itself! Unique content in most cases showcases the bloggers personal insights along with their delivery style which of course is what helps to make it so different!
Thought Provoking
People like to be challenged or intrigued when it comes to a topic with which they have much familiarity! These 'challenges' help people view the subject matter in a way they haven't done before expanding their own insight. Even our most favorite subjects can become boring after a while but when offered a new perspective this can add new luster for us to the subject matter! Some of the most interesting blogs found are those that post thought provoking updates or even encourage comments from viewer that are equally provocative!
Connection
Almost as important having unique content to offer visitors is the environment they encounter on the site itself! For starters it is of critical importance to allow comments since this encourages reader interaction. When people are allowed the opportunity to share their opinions and/or enthusiasm with others who hold the same interest they typically experience a certain gratification! It's much like having someone to share good news with and this is a very natural and dominant part of human nature! Having that sense of community gives us not only the feeling of belonging but also a way to validate our beliefs! This is very important and should never be overlooked since blogs are essentially highly focused social network sites! Offering visitors a chance to connect with yourself and others is vitally important!
There's no argument that blog posting is the single biggest factor in the success of the site but does frequency really matter! When you consider most are looking for unique content pertaining to a subject of their interest that can be supplied without frequent updating. It seems that the most interesting blogs are the ones that consistently offer not only unique content but also an environment that offers a sense of community. Giving viewers information they want to see in an environment that allows them to share their thoughts and ideas with like minded people seems to be all a blogger needs to supply! As the discussion above suggests it's more a matter of posting consistency and fostering a sense of community so folks can share and exchange their interests and enthusiasm!
